In the January-May period, the number of passengers who preferred the airline at airports across Turkiye exceeded 73 million.
General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI), affiliated to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, announced the aircraft, passenger and cargo statistics for the period of May and January-May.
Accordingly, the number of passengers who preferred the airline in May was 18 million 787 thousand 471. In the January-May period, 73 million 466 thousand 360 passengers used the airline.
The number of aircraft landing and taking off at environmentally and passenger-friendly airports reached 76 thousand 3 in domestic flights and 69 thousand 654 in international flights. In May, a total of 185 thousand 689 aircraft traffic was realized with overpasses. Compared to the same month of the previous year, there was an increase of 3.8% in domestic air traffic, 16.4% in international air traffic, and a 12.3% increase in total air traffic including overpasses.
2019 figures have been left behind
Passenger traffic, which has decreased greatly throughout the world and in the country during the COVID-19 epidemic, exceeded the level in May 2019 in May. In the total passenger traffic, including the direct transit of the airports, 110% of the passenger traffic in May 2019 was realized in May of this year. In addition, 106% of the total aircraft traffic was exceeded in the same month, including overpasses.
In the said month, domestic passenger traffic was 8 million 208 thousand 449 and international passenger traffic was 10 million 562 thousand 533 at the airports serving throughout Turkiye. Thus, a total of 18 million 787 thousand 471 passengers were served with direct transit passengers this month. Compared to the same month of the previous year, there was an increase of 14.3% in domestic passenger traffic, 22.6% in international passenger traffic, and 18.7% in total passenger traffic, including direct transit.
Airport cargo (cargo, mail and baggage) traffic reached 67 thousand 713 tons in domestic flights, 272 thousand 643 tons in international flights, and a total of 340 thousand 356 tons in May.
Istanbul Airport served 6.6 million passengers in May
The aircraft traffic that took off and landed at Istanbul Airport in May reached 44 thousand 80 in total, with 12 thousand 502 on domestic lines and 31 thousand 578 on international lines.
A total of 6 million 559 thousand 203 passengers were served at this airport in May, with 1 million 739 thousand 670 on domestic flights and 4 million 819 thousand 533 on international flights.
At Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport, the number of aircraft that landed and took off in May was 9 thousand 93 in domestic lines and 9 thousand 641 in international lines, a total of 18 thousand 734, passenger traffic was 3 million 48 thousand 703, with 1 million 483 thousand 893 on domestic lines and 1 million 564 thousand 810 on international lines.
At Istanbul Ataturk Airport, where general aviation activities continue, 2,183 aircraft traffic took place in May.
Aircraft traffic in 5 months exceeded 786 thousand
In the January-May period, the aircraft traffic that took off and landed at the airports was 335 thousand 728 in domestic lines and 269 thousand 798 in international lines. Thus, a total of 786 thousand 43 aircraft traffic was recorded with overpasses. Compared to the same period of the previous year, domestic air traffic increased by 16.3%, international air traffic increased by 26.2% and total air traffic including overpasses increased by 22.3%.
A total of 73 million 466 thousand 360 passengers were served with direct transit passengers in this period when the domestic passenger traffic of the airports in Turkiye was 34 million 24 thousand 650 and the international passenger traffic was 39 million 350 thousand 694. Compared to the same period of the previous year, there was an increase of 19.6% in domestic passenger traffic, 38% in international passenger traffic and 28.6% in total passenger traffic, including direct transit.
During the said period, airport freight (cargo, mail and baggage) traffic reached a total of 1 million 462 thousand 622 tons, with 309 thousand 341 tons on domestic flights and 1 million 153 thousand 281 tons on international flights.
198 thousand 659 aircraft used Istanbul Airport
A total of 198 thousand 659 aircraft, 51 thousand 142 on domestic flights and 147 thousand 517 on international flights, in 5 months at Istanbul Airport; There was a total of 29 million 74 thousand 300 passenger traffic, 6 million 852 thousand 150 on domestic lines and 22 million 222 thousand 150 on international lines.
In this period, Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport had a total of 87 thousand 200 aircraft traffic, 41 thousand 250 on domestic lines and 45 thousand 950 on international lines. A total of 13 million 733 thousand 568 passengers were served, 6 million 462 thousand 278 on domestic lines and 7 million 271 thousand 290 on international lines.
In the said period, Istanbul Ataturk Airport had 10 thousand 115 aircraft traffic.
