Turkish pasta industrialists aim to reach 876 thousand tons of export, which they realized in 8 months, to 1.5 million tons by the end of the year.
Turkish Pasta Manufacturers Association (TMSD) President Aykut Goymen stated that 25 October World Pasta Day was taken into consideration with the suggestion of Turkiye.
Stating that the Turkish pasta industry is full of producers with advanced technological infrastructure and equipment, Goymen said that the pasta produced in Turkiye is exported to 160 countries.
“We can say that Anatolian and Mesopotamian lands are the homeland of durum wheat. Therefore, durum wheat grown in our country and especially in the Southeast tastes really different. Therefore, people in Turkiye eat good quality pasta, and the countries we export to are also very happy with it.” Göymen said that Turkiye is the second in the world in both export and production of pasta.

Goymen stated that Turkiye is among the top 10 in the world in pasta consumption and that the annual consumption per capita in the country is around 8.5 kilograms.
“Our country exported 876 thousand tons in 8 months of the year and currently has a sector with an export of around $627 million.” Goymen said that 95% of Turkiye’s exports are made up of plain pasta, and that the highest number of pasta sales are made to Togo, Benin, Venezuela, Ghana and Japan.
Emphasizing that there will be a great increase in exports with the removal of the pasta quota restrictions imposed by the EU, Goymen said that they are working to achieve this.
“The Turkish pasta industry is a sector that provides employment for 40 thousand people. I only count the people working in our businesses. Since it has a serious tonnage, for example, if we consider this in terms of farmers, transportation and logistics, millions of people get their bread from this sector. Turkish pasta is a really high quality pasta. Our export target this year is 1.5 million tons. Last year, we produced around 2 million 200 thousand tons in total. About 1 million 400 thousand tons of this was exported, the rest was consumed in the domestic market.”
