Turkish Airlines (THY) announced the start of weekly flights to Kirkuk, Iraq, once a week, and that flights will be increased to two times a week as of December 3.
Turkish Airlines (THY) Baghdad Director Hayrettin Gargi said in a statement to the press that they have started flights to Kirkuk once a week as of today.
Noting that a plane will fly to Kirkuk every Thursday, Gargi stated that this will continue until the beginning of next December.
Gargi noted that as of December 3, scheduled flights from Istanbul to Kirkuk will be increased to two per week.
Stating that he is happy to be the “first international flying airline company” that departs from Kirkuk as THY, Gargi stated that the flights in Kirkuk will be increased gradually.
Kirkuk Airport, which is used as a military base, is opened to civilian flights
Kirkuk Airport, located in Kirkuk, Iraq and used as a military base, was officially put into service with a ceremony held on 16 October, and domestic and international flights began on 20 October.
In a written statement, the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority stated that Kirkuk Airport is in compliance with all international standards and is ready for civil flights, and noted that Kirkuk Airport will contribute significantly to passenger and cargo transportation in the country.
