THY will transport export products with 35% discount

An “Air Cargo Cooperation Protocol” was signed between Turkish Airlines (THY) and the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), aiming to provide cargo services to exporters under favorable conditions. With the agreement, Turkish Cargo will transport export products to 46 destinations in 32 countries at a discount of 10 to 35%. Thus, an additional capacity of approximately $6 billion will be created in exports.

CONTRIBUTED TO GROWTH

Within the scope of the protocol, perishable products from eggs to fish were also included in the discount. The signing ceremony of the said protocol was held at the Ministry of Commerce with the participation of Minister of Commerce Mehmet Mus, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoglu, TIM President Ismail Gulle and THY Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee Ilker Ayci. Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Trade Mehmet Mus stated that they attach great importance to increasing the share of air and rail transportation in the transportation of exported products. And added saying, “With the Memorandum of Understanding, Turkish Cargo will offer a discount of 10 to 35% in general cargo, eggs, fresh fruit-vegetables and fish transports to our exporters in 32 countries and 46 destinations until the end of the year.” Drawing attention to the positive course of economic data, Mus reminded that nearly half of the 21.7% growth in the second quarter was due to exports of goods and services.

$1.2 BILLION

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoglu also explained that the cooperation between TIM and THY contributed greatly to the development of exports. Karaismailoglu said, “After the first cooperation between THY-TIM, a total of $1.2 billion of high value-added product exports were realized on 28 destinations determined in the 4-month period between December 2020 and March 2021.”

PERISHABLE PRODUCTS ARE COVERED

THY Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee Ilker Ayci stated that they included perishable products within the scope of discount for the first time with the new protocol, and said, “Extremely important export items in Turkey’s exports, from eggs to fish, also entered into this business. In addition, we have included a wider range of products, including e-commerce products, in the scope of discounts.”

HIGH CONTRIBUTION TO EXPORT INCREASE

TIM President Ismail Gulle stated that Turkish Cargo stands by the export family with its solid infrastructure in air logistics during the epidemic, “Turkish Cargo’s contribution to us in increasing our exports to over 200 billion in a period when there are serious breaks in global logistics networks and container indexes increased 4-5 times.”
