TIM President Ismail Gulle said, “Despite the pandemic period, we reached our annual export target of $200 billion under difficult conditions, this was a record in the history of the republic. Our new target is to export $300 billion annually in 5 years.”
The exporter set its sights on the target of $300 billion. Ismail Gulle, President of the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TIM), made statements regarding Turkey’s annual export figures. Gulle said that despite the difficult conditions during the pandemic period, annual exports in Turkey reached the level of $200 billion. Gulle also added that this figure is a record in the history of the republic.
Starting his speech by reminding that the pandemic crisis continues in the world, Gulle said, “We have been working under difficult conditions since the pandemic began. Despite all the difficulties in this period, we have reached our annual export target of $200 billion, which we have aimed to exceed for 14 years. This figure was a record in the history of the republic. We trust our exporters, we thank our export family for this success. We are taking firm steps towards our goals in these difficult conditions. We have taken our place in the supply chain in the changing world, we are increasing our targets. We aim to export $300 billion in the next 5 years.”
“WE WILL REGULARLY GIVE FOREIGN TRADE SURPLUS”
Emphasizing that one of their goals is a Turkey with a foreign trade surplus, Gulle said, “The ratio of exports to imports in Turkey has increased from 75% to 87%. It’s almost time for us to have a foreign trade surplus. In the coming years, there will be a Turkey with a regular foreign trade surplus. When we achieve this goal, many things will change in our country. We will see that the difficult conditions that are squeezing Turkey will disappear. When we achieve our goals, the level of welfare in our country will increase significantly.”
Gulle, who also gave information about the sectors that export the most, said, “We have many exporting sectors. First of all, the steel industry plays a leading role in exports. Apart from the steel sector, there is an increase in the exports of the chemical, electronics, automotive, ready-made clothing and agriculture sectors. We export mostly to countries in the European Union. Recently, the US market has been playing an important role in our exports. We have been exporting to the USA at high levels for the last 15 months and our export figures have been increasing for 15 months. We will continue to do our best to help Turkey reach its goals.”
