TPAO Decides to Expand Oil Exploration Field in Diyarbakır

Türkiye’s state-owned oil company, Türkiye Petrolleri Anonim Ortaklığı (TPAO), has decided to expand its oil exploration area in Diyarbakır, according to a decision published in the Official Gazette by the General Directorate of Mining and Petroleum Affairs.

Exploration Area Significantly Enlarged

Under the new decision, TPAO’s existing 10,243-hectare petroleum exploration license area will be expanded by adding 44,851 hectares from nearby exploration blocks. This expansion includes the L46-d1, L46-d2, and L46-d3 map sections, significantly increasing the company’s operational footprint in the region.

The enlargement means the company will be able to carry out additional exploration and drilling activities across a much larger area in southeastern Türkiye.

Additional License Requests

TPAO has also applied to extend the duration of several other petroleum exploration licenses in the region. The requested extensions involve multiple exploration blocks whose permits are set to expire in 2026, with the company seeking an additional two-year extension to continue exploration work.

Broader Energy Exploration Efforts

The decision reflects Türkiye’s broader strategy to increase domestic oil and gas production by intensifying exploration activities in southeastern provinces such as Diyarbakır and nearby energy-rich areas.
