TUIK: Housing sales increased in March, Istanbul took the first place

Housing sales increased by 36.95% in March compared to the previous month and 2.4% compared to the same month of the previous year.

111 thousand 241 houses were sold in March throughout Turkey. The number of houses sold in March increased by 36.95% compared to February and 2.4% compared to the same month of last year.

Turkey Statistical Institute (TUIK) has announced the statistics on housing sales in March.

Accordingly, housing sales in Turkey increased by 2.4% in March compared to the same month of the previous year and became 111 thousand 241. The number of houses sold in March increased by 36.95% compared to February. 81 thousand 222 houses were sold in February.

Istanbul was the province with the highest share with 22 thousand 7 house sales and 19.8%. Istanbul was followed by Ankara with 11 thousand 3 house sales and 9.9% share, and Izmir with 6 thousand 636 house sales and 6% share. The provinces with the lowest number of housing sales were Ardahan with 15 houses, Hakkari with 16 houses and Tunceli with 52 houses, respectively.

Mortgaged house sales in March decreased by 49.7% compared to the same month of the previous year and decreased to 21,815. The share of mortgage sales in total house sales was 19.6%. In mortgage sales, Istanbul ranked first with 4 thousand 643 house sales and 21.3% share. The province with the lowest mortgage sales was Hakkari with 1 house.

Accordingly, 4 thousand 248 houses were sold to foreigners in March throughout Turkey. House sales to foreigners increased by 39.9% on an annual basis in March.

In the housing sales made to foreigners, Istanbul took the first place with 2 thousand 119 house sales in the month in question. Istanbul was followed by Antalya with 889 house sales, Ankara with 252, Mersin with 184 and Yalova with 129 house sales.

Iranian citizens bought 663 houses in Turkey in March. Iranian citizens were followed by Iraq with 644 houses, Russia with 419 houses, Afghanistan with 302 and Kazakhstan with 166 houses.

OTHER HOUSING SALES ALSO INCREASED

Other house sales in March, Turkey in general increased by 36.9% compared to the same month of the previous year and became 89,426. In other house sales, Istanbul ranked first with 17 thousand 364 house sales and 19.4% share.

The share of other sales in total house sales in Istanbul was 78.9%. While Ankara ranked second with 8 thousand 224 other house sales, Ankara was followed by Izmir with 5 thousand 158 sales in this category. The province with the least other housing sales was Ardahan with 13 houses.

The number of houses sold in Turkey for the first time decreased by 2.1% in March compared to the same month of the previous year and decreased to 33 thousand 365. The share of the first sale in total house sales was 30%. In the first sales, Istanbul was the province with the highest share with 6 thousand 317 house sales and 18.9%, followed by Ankara with 2 thousand 98 sales and Izmir with 1836.

Second hand house sales in Turkey increased by 4.4% in March compared to the same month of the previous year and became 77,876. In second-hand house sales, Istanbul ranked first with 15,690 house sales and 20.1% share. The share of second-hand sales in total house sales in Istanbul was 71.3%. While Ankara ranked second in this category with 8 thousand 905 house sales, the third was recorded as Izmir with 4 thousand 800 sales.
