Turkiye’s population figures until 2080 were announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute. According to TUIK’s research results, it has been published how much the population of Turkiye will increase/decrease until 2080, under the assumption that Turkiye’s current trends in demographic indicators will continue.
ISTANBUL IN 2023 WILL HAVE A POPULATION OF 16.3 MILLION
According to the Address Based Population Registration System of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) on February 4, 2022, the population of Istanbul by Settlements increased by 378 thousand 448 people in 2021 compared to the previous year and became 15 million 840 thousand 900 people. While 10 million 224 thousand 323 people live on the European side of Istanbul, 5 million 616 thousand 577 people live on the Anatolian side. The rapidly increasing population of Istanbul is expected to reach 16.3 million in 2023.
Ankara 6.1 million
Izmir 4.6 million
Bursa 3.2 million
Antalya will have a population of 2.7 million.
THE POPULATION WILL CONTINUE TO AGE
Life expectancy at birth is increasing in our country and our population continues to age. The median age, which is an important indicator of the age structure of the population, is expected to be 32 in 2018, 33.5 in 2023, 38.5 in 2040, 42.3 in 2060, and 45 in 2080.
It is predicted that the proportion of the population aged 65 and over, defined as the elderly population, will be 8.7% in 2018, 10.2% in 2023, 16.3% in 2040, 22.6% in 2060 and 25.6% in 2080.
The population of Turkiye is expected to exceed 100 million in 2040. As for the year 2070, the country’s population figures reveal a surprising development. Here are Turkiye’s population figures from 2018 to 2080:
THE WORKING AGE POPULATION WILL BE 58.7% IN 2080
The ratio of the population in the 15-64 age group of working age to be 67.8% in 2018, 67.2% in 2023, 64.4% in 2040, 60.4% in 2060 and 58.7% in 2080 is expected.
The proportion of the population in the 0-14 age group, defined as the child population, is expected to be 23.5% in 2018, 22.6% in 2023, and 19.3% in 2040. It is predicted that it will be 16.9% in 2060 and 15.7% in 2080.
