Türk Eximbank aims to provide $59 billion in loans and insurance support to Turkish exporters in 2026, according to the Ministry of Trade. The announcement came as the bank marked the 39th anniversary of its establishment.
Established on August 21, 1987, Türk Eximbank has become Türkiye’s largest export credit and receivables insurance institution. It provides financing, insurance and guarantees to companies exporting goods and services and undertaking projects abroad.
$59 billion target for 2026
The bank provided $7.8 million in support in 1989 and $5.6 billion in 2001. This year, it aims to increase its total credit and insurance support to $59 billion.
Türk Eximbank’s shareholders’ equity has grown from an initial capital of TL 500,000 to TL 202 billion today.
The bank currently has nearly 20,000 customers, with SMEs accounting for 83% of its customer base. Meanwhile, 47% of the export loans it provides are directed toward exports of high- and medium-high-technology products.
Expanded branch network
The bank has significantly expanded its physical presence to reach exporters more directly. Its network now consists of three regional directorates, 25 branches and seven liaison offices, compared with just two branches in 2001.
The network now covers provinces responsible for more than 90% of Türkiye’s total exports.
New financing instruments introduced
The Ministry said Türk Eximbank has recently introduced several new financing mechanisms in response to exporters’ needs.
These include the Buyer’s Credits Program, which is being implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Trade, as well as participation-finance instruments such as murabaha, istisna, ijara and istijrar.
The bank has also introduced Participation-Based Receivables Insurance, described as a first in export credit insurance, to insure exporters’ receivables.
The Ministry added that international cooperation has recently been strengthened, expanding funding opportunities for green transformation, supplier financing and foreign trade transactions.
Türk Eximbank said it will continue developing its support mechanisms in line with exporters’ needs and remain a key financial partner for Türkiye’s exporters.
