GENEVA — Turkcell CEO Ali Taha Koç said the company views every infrastructure investment as a strategic contribution to Türkiye’s national future, emphasizing that artificial intelligence leadership will depend on building strong, independent digital infrastructure.
Speaking at the AI for Good Global Summit, organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Geneva, Koç addressed two sessions on the transformation of the telecommunications sector and outlined Turkcell’s AI-focused infrastructure strategy.
Koç argued that the global race in artificial intelligence has shifted beyond developing advanced models to building the infrastructure that supports them.
“Artificial intelligence is no longer a matter of models, but of infrastructure. Whoever controls the infrastructure will shape the future. If AI is the key to a strong digital future, then the future of AI depends on robust and independent infrastructure,” he said.
Highlighting Turkcell’s investments in the foundational layers of AI, Koç said the company aims to become a regional technology provider capable of supporting Türkiye’s long-term digital transformation. He stressed that the effort extends beyond corporate objectives.
“We see every infrastructure we build for our country as a strategic signature for our national future. This is a national responsibility that goes beyond our company,” Koç said.
Koç also emphasized the importance of developing sovereign digital capabilities, including data centers, cloud infrastructure, high-speed connectivity, and AI computing resources, to ensure that Türkiye remains competitive in the rapidly evolving global technology landscape. His remarks align with Turkcell’s broader strategy of expanding investments in next-generation communications infrastructure and AI-driven technologies.
