According to the end of 2021 data of the Turkish Capital Markets Association (TSPB), the total amount managed by portfolio management companies increased by 80% compared to 2020 and reached ₺653.1 billion. The data showed that portfolios managed by the portfolio management sector grew by an average of 10% on a quarterly basis last year, while the growth in the last quarter exceeded 35%. Of the portfolio size, ₺571 billion consisted of collective portfolios, while ₺82 billion consisted of individual portfolios of real and legal persons.
50 COMPANIES OPERATE
As of the end of 2021, 50 portfolio management companies operate in Turkey. While the number of funds managed by portfolio management companies increased by 323 last year, the number of mutual funds consisting of securities, real estate, venture capital, stock market and hedge funds in the sector increased to 982. With the effect of the new funds established in 2021, the fastest growth among the total portfolio managed by the portfolio management sector was experienced in mutual funds.
FUNDS DOUBLED
The total size of mutual funds, which was ₺151.8 billion at the end of 2020, increased by 115% and reached ₺325.9 billion. Hedge funds were mainly effective in the growth in mutual funds. According to Central Registry Agency data, the number of mutual fund investors increased by 105 thousand people compared to the end of 2020 and approached 3.2 million by the end of 2021. 65% of the mutual fund portfolio size is in the hands of domestic individual investors. The size of pension mutual funds increased by 43% and reached ₺243.8 billion at the end of 2021.
