Exports of $2.34 billion from the Turkish chemical industry in January

According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), Turkiye’s exports amounted to $20 billion in January, an increase of 3.6% compared to the same period last year. The chemical industry, which exported $2.34 billion, became the second most exporting sector in January and received a 13.6% share of the country’s exports.

Evaluating the January export figures of the chemical industry, Adil Pelister, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Istanbul Chemicals and Products Exporters Association (IKMIB), said, “In January, our chemical industry realized $2.3 billion of exports with a 2% increase and became the second sector with a 13.6% share of our country’s exports. We completed 2023 with chemical exports of $30.6 billion. Although 2023 was a difficult year for our country and the global economy, we managed to exceed the $30 billion threshold and became Turkiye’s second most exporting sector. This year, we set an export target of $35 billion. We hope that the export increase we achieved in January will continue with an even higher performance and stability throughout the year. Among the countries we exported the most in January, the Netherlands ranked first with an increase of 11.1% and $143.1 million, while the USA, with an increase of 66.58% compared to the same period last year, ranked second with approximately $140 million, and Italy, with an increase of 62%. It ranked third with $128.4 million. In the product groups we export the most, our top three sectors are plastics and their products, mineral fuels and products and inorganic chemicals. We will continue to produce and export to achieve better success in 2024.”

In January, the most exports were made of “plastics and products”

In January, plastics and their products exports ranked first in chemical exports with $717 million 712 thousand in the chemical substances and products product groups. Mineral fuels and products ranked second with exports of $634 million 553 thousand, while inorganic chemicals exports ranked third with $221 million 469 thousand. Following ‘Inorganic chemicals’, the other sectors in the top ten were; ‘essential oils, cosmetics and soap’, ‘rubber, rubber goods’, ‘pharmaceutical products’, ‘paint, varnish, ink and preparations’, ‘miscellaneous chemicals’, ‘organic chemicals’ and ‘washing preparations’.

The Netherlands became the country with the most exports

The top ten countries with the most exports in January were the Netherlands, the USA, Italy, Romania, Spain, Germany, Russia, Iraq, England and Gibraltar. Among the top 10 countries in January, the highest increase was in Gibraltar with 100%.
