In the said period, 1247 tons of anchovy were sold to 26 countries. In the same period of last season, $4 million 421 thousand 664 were earned in return for 917 tons of anchovy exports from the country. France was the country where the most anchovies were exported during this period. 267 tons of anchovy were sent to this country for $1 million 646 thousand 878. In the same period of the last season, 252 tons of anchovy were exported to France for $1 million 501 thousand 651. Belgium followed France with $1 million 398 thousand 414 for 232 tons and Germany with $1 million 129 thousand 937 for 250 tons.

On the other hand, anchovy was sold to Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Syria and Kenya during this period.

Ahmet Hamdi Gurdogan, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of DKIB, told Anadolu Agency (AA) that anchovy creates a significant potential in aquaculture exports.

Explaining that they could not achieve the increase they expected due to the decrease in yield this year, Gürdoğan continued as follows:

“Anchovy has also started to be exported as a processed product. As such, we started to receive significant demand from Europe. We want to turn anchovy into a value-added product and be able to export it for 12 months. In recent years, our companies have made R&D studies and investments in this direction. We hope that our product range will increase even more in the coming years.”

Stating that they care about bringing anchovy fishing to a sustainable level, Gurdogan added that the control mechanism should work very well against uncontrolled hunting as well as pollution in the seas.
