ISTANBUL — Turkey has been identified as the most affordable holiday destination in Europe, according to the latest price level data released by Eurostat. However, the country also stands out for having the highest prices for alcoholic beverages among European nations.
Eurostat’s comparison of consumer prices across European countries shows that Turkey offers the lowest overall prices for restaurants, hotels, and tourism-related services, making it an attractive destination for international travelers seeking value for money. The findings reinforce Turkey’s position as one of the region’s most competitively priced tourism markets.
The report indicates that Turkey’s general price level for tourism-related spending remains well below the European Union average, thanks in part to the depreciation of the Turkish lira, which has increased the purchasing power of foreign visitors.
In contrast, alcoholic beverages in Turkey are the most expensive in Europe relative to the country’s overall price levels. High excise taxes imposed on alcohol have pushed prices above those in all EU member states, making alcoholic drinks a notable exception to the country’s otherwise affordable cost of living and travel.
The data highlights a sharp contrast within Turkey’s consumer market: while accommodation, dining, transportation, and other travel expenses remain among the cheapest in Europe, alcohol prices continue to be significantly elevated due to taxation policies.
The Eurostat figures underscore Turkey’s competitiveness as a tourism destination, particularly for travelers looking for affordable vacations, even as visitors may face some of Europe’s highest prices when purchasing alcoholic beverages.
