High-technology products' share rises in country's overall exports, says head of Turkish Exporters' Assembly

Turkey targets $190 billion worth of exports in 2020, head of the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TIM) said on Thursday. The country’s exports reached $180.46 billion, hitting a historical high in 2019, according to the TIM data.

Ismail Gulle also said the share of high-technology products is rising in the country’s overall exports. According to current figures, exports this month rose 5% versus January 2019, added Gulle.

Referring to interest rates, he said: “Turkey should reduce the interest rate to the single-digit level for sustainability.”

Turkey’s exports rose 2.04% to reach $180.4B in 2019

Turkey’s exports amounted to $180.46 billion, up 2.04%, in 2019 compared to the previous year, the country’s trade minister said on Friday. Ruhsar Pekcan said that despite all the hurdles in 2019, Turkey once again broke records in exports hitting a historical high.

“Last year, imports dropped 8.99% to reach $210.4 billion,” she noted, adding that foreign trade deficit fell 44.9% from $54.3 billion to $29.9 billion.
