The software called “Muhafiz”, which will be used by the Ministry of Commerce, will identify risk situations that cannot be revealed by human effort with artificial intelligence technologies. By examining millions of data, the system will give an alarm when it sees the goods or people passing through the border gates at risk.
The software called “Muhafiz”, to be used by the Ministry of Commerce, General Directorate of Customs Enforcement, was financed by the European Union Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA).
BYS Grup Inc. and HAVELSAN also provided support to the software, which was developed under the leadership of TUBITAK Informatics and Information Security Advanced Technologies Research Center (BİLGEM) with completely domestic and national resources. The software, which was developed using national and original cloud computing, big data and artificial intelligence applications, showed great success in the tests.
With the project, it is aimed to increase the customs surveillance and control function of the Ministry by developing a governance tool that uses artificial intelligence and big data technologies.
Thanks to Muhafiz, big data from different data sources will be processed as both bulk and streaming data and analyzed with artificial intelligence algorithms. Thus, analyzes and risk relationships that cannot be revealed by human effort will be determined by artificial intelligence technologies.
With the project, it is expected that foreign trade will gain speed by increasing the efficiency in the fight against smuggling and irregularity at customs gates and accelerating the decision-making and customs control processes.
IT WILL BE USED IN THE FIELD THIS MONTH
The software, which will add artificial intelligence-supported control capacity to Turkish customs gates, is expected to be put into use in the field this month.
The Muhafiz software also included usage scenarios according to various situations at customs. The system, which will scrutinize the person or goods passing through the customs gates, will examine millions of data and thousands of customs declarations with artificial intelligence and give an alarm as “It is risky” or “not risky”.
With artificial intelligence, it is foreseen that as few declarations as possible are considered risky and warned, so that really risky issues are caught at the same time without taking too much time of the customs enforcement personnel.
INSTANT ANALYSIS OF VEHICLE AND SHIP DATA
Vehicle and ship-tracking data will also come to Muhafiz instantly, and anomalies will be detected instantly.
With this system, Turkey will be among the few countries in the world that use artificial intelligence, cloud data and big data technologies at customs gates.
Muhafiz software will be able to be updated according to new fraud and smuggling methods that will occur in the future. New data sources and scenarios can be added to the system accordingly.
