Turkey’s aquaculture sector recorded strong growth in the first quarter of the year, with exports exceeding $552 million, driven by rising global demand and increased production capacity.
Exports Rise by 24%
According to data compiled from exporters’ associations, the sector’s exports rose 24% year-on-year, reaching approximately $552.7 million, up from about $445 million in the same period last year.
Between January and March, Turkey exported 63,636 tons of seafood to 72 countries, highlighting the sector’s expanding global reach.
Sea Bass and Sea Bream Lead Revenues
The largest share of export revenue came from:
- Sea bass: $185.6 million
- Sea bream: $140.3 million
- Turkish salmon: $91 million
Exports of these key products also showed notable growth compared to last year, with sea bass rising by 29%, sea bream by 18%, and Turkish salmon by 8%.
Russia Remains Top Market
Russia was the leading destination for Turkish seafood exports, accounting for around $88 million in sales. It was followed by:
- Italy
- The Netherlands
- Greece
- The United Kingdom
Continued Growth and Record Expectations
The aquaculture sector has been on a steady upward trajectory in recent years, breaking export records consecutively. Industry representatives expect this momentum to continue, with forecasts pointing to new record levels in 2026.
Expanding Capacity and Global Demand
Industry officials emphasized that increasing production capacity and growing international demand for Turkish seafood are key drivers behind the sector’s performance.
They also noted that sustained investment and market diversification efforts are expected to further strengthen Turkey’s position in global seafood trade.
