Turkey’s Borsa Istanbul closes Friday down

BIST 100 index loses 42.82 points, or 2.35%, from previous close

Turkey’s benchmark stock index ended with losses on Friday to finish at 1,776.41 points.

After starting the day at 1,801.30 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index lost 42.82 points, or 2.35%, from Thursday’s close of 1,819.23 points.

The BIST 100’s lowest value during the day was 1,760.80 points, while the daily high was 1,811.07 points.

The total market value of the index was over 1.43 trillion Turkish liras ($119.2 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of more than 33.3 billion Turkish liras ($2.7 billion).

A total of 30 stocks on the index rose, while 69 fell, and one remained unchanged, compared to Thursday’s close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, private lender Garanti BBVA, and polyester producer Sasa.

Shares of pharmaceutical firm Turk Ilac Serum ​​​​​​performed the best, rising 9.93%, while stocks of budget airline Pegasus​​​​​​​ dropped the most, 9.81%.

One ounce of gold traded at $1,798 as of 6.23 p.m. local time (1523GMT),up 0.55% from the previous close, according to official data.

The price of Brent crude oil was $75.56 per barrel at the time for a 0.81% daily loss.
