Turkey’s Borsa Istanbul closes Friday with gains

BIST 100 gains 85.98 points, or 4.76%, from previous close

Turkey’s benchmark stock index ended Friday with gains to close at 1,891.28 points.

After starting the day at 1,820.67 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index gained 85.98 points, or 4.76%, from Thursday’s close of 1,805.30 points.

The index’s lowest value during the day was 1,808.93 points, while its daily high was 1,891.28 points.

The total market value of BIST 100 was approximately 1.5 trillion Turkish liras ($132.2 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of more than 26.6 billion Turkish liras ($2.2 billion).

A total of 87 stocks on the index rose during the day, 8 fell, and five remained unchanged compared to Thursday’s close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by glassmaker Sise Cam, iron and steel producer Eregli, and national flag carrier Turkish Airlines.

Shares of carmaker Tofas performed the best with a 9.99% increase, while stocks of Turk Ilac Serum saw the largest decline 9.73%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,808.20 by the day’s end, down from $1,810.70 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was down 0.1% to $76.52 per barrel as of 6.18 p.m.local time (1518GMT).
