Turkey’s Borsa Istanbul closes Monday with gains

BIST 100 gains 5.85 points, or 0.31%, from previous close

Turkey’s benchmark stock index ended Monday with gains to close at 1,897.13 points.

After starting the day at 1,902.35 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index gained 5.85 points, or 0.31%, from Friday’s close of 1,891.28 points.

The index’s lowest value during the day was 1,873.30 points, while its daily high was 1,942.53 points.

The total market value of BIST 100 was approximately 1.5 trillion Turkish liras ($129.8 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of more than 30.8 billion Turkish liras ($2.7 billion).

A total of 45 stocks on the index rose during the day, 52 fell, and three remained unchanged compared to Friday’s close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and polyester producer Sasa.

Shares of tractor manufacturer Tumosan Motor performed the best, up 9.95%,while stocks of engineering and construction company Enka saw the largest decline, down 3.46%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,809.40 by the day’s end, up from $1,808.20 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was up 3.4% to $78.36 per barrel as of 6.55 p.m. local time (1555GMT).
