Turkey’s Borsa Istanbul closes Monday with new records

BIST 100 index gains 63.99 points, or 3.91%, from previous close

Turkey’s benchmark stock index ended with gains on Monday to hit another record closing of 1,702.49 points, while it hit a new intraday all-time high level of 1,710.79 points during the session.

After starting the day at 1,672.35 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index gained 63.99 point, or 3.91%, from Friday’s close of 1,638.50 points.

This was the eighth consecutive trading day that the BIST 100 posted an all-time high, and the ninth day in a row that the index closed with gains.

Its lowest value during the day was 1,672.35 points and its daily high was 1,710.79 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was 1.35 trillion Turkish liras ($136 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of almost 33.5 billion Turkish liras ($3.35 billion).

A total of 88 stocks on the index rose, while 10 fell and two remained unchanged compared to Friday’s close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, petrochemical firm Petkim, and iron and steel producer Kardemir.

Shares of private lender Akbank performed the best,rising 9.94%, while the stocks of automotive company Dogus Otomotiv dropped the most, 3.41%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,859.70 by market close, up from $1,848.00 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was down 0.9% to $81.41 per barrel as of 6.50 p.m. local time (1550GMT).
