Turkey’s Borsa Istanbul hits 5-month high at Tuesday’s close

BIST 100 index gains over 13 points from previous close

Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed at 1,472.07 points on Tuesday, up 0.95% from the previous close, to hit a five-month high since March 22.

Starting the day at 1,467.18 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index gained 13.84 points from Friday’s close of 1,458.23 points.

There was no transaction in Turkey’s financial markets on Monday as the country marked Victory Day on Aug. 30.

The index’s lowest value during the session was 1,465.17,while its daily high was 1,469.95.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was 1.1 trillion Turkish liras ($132 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 12.1 billion Turkish liras (nearly $1.5 billion).

A total of 82 stocks on the index rose, 16 fell, and two were unchanged compared to Monday’s close.

Shares of private lenders Yapi Kredi and Garanti BBVA, and energy giant Tupras saw the highest trading volumes.

Stocks of electricity company Esenboga were the top gainers,up 6.94%, while shares of conglomerate Koc dropped the most, 2.37%.

An ounce of gold traded for $1,813.00 by market close, up from $1,790.00 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $71.96 per barrel as of 6.31 p.m. (1531GMT).
