Turkey’s Borsa Istanbul up 2.77% at close

BIST 100 gains nearly 54 points from previous close

Turkiye’s benchmark stock index ended Monday at 1,997.58 points, up 2.77% from the previous close.

Starting the week at 1,943.16 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index earned 53.77 points from Friday’s close of 1,943.81 points.

The index’s lowest value during the day was 1,908.57 points and the daily high was 1,997.58, with 85 stocks rising, 8 falling, and seven flat compared to the previous close.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was over 1.6 trillion Turkish liras (some $118 billion) by market close, while the daily trading volume was 27.3 billion Turkish liras ($2 billion).

The highest trading volumes were posted by flag carrier Turkish Airlines,iron and steel producer Kardemir, and private lender Yapi Kredi.

Public transportation and defense industries company Otokar was the best performer of the day, with its shares up 10%, while stocks of waste-to-energy firm Biotrend saw the sharpest drop of 6.19%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,816.65 by market close, up from $1,815.00.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $92.65 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT).
