Morocco’s imports of Turkish goods increased by 20.5% year-on-year in 2022

The Moroccan Exchange Office, the state agency responsible for Morocco’s foreign trade statistics, announced that the country’s imports of Turkish goods increased by 20.5% year-on-year in 2022.

The Moroccan Exchange Office has published a report on trade goods imported into the country.

In the report, it was noted that the imports of Morocco within the framework of the free trade agreement with Turkiye increased by 20.5% in 2022 compared to the previous year, to 27.1 billion dirhams ($2.79 billion).

In the report of the Moroccan Exchange Office, it was stated that most of Morocco’s trade exchanges in 2022 were with Europe with a share of 58.8%.

In the report, which states that 27.4% of Morocco’s trade exchanges in 2022 are with Spain, France ranks second with 23.1%, Italy is in the third place with 7.7% and Turkiye is in the fourth place with 7.2%.

Morocco and Turkiye signed a free trade agreement between the two countries in April 2004, and the agreement entered into force in June 2006.

Morocco’s imports of goods from Turkiye have accelerated in recent years due to the rise in Turkish goods exports and the bilateral trade agreements signed.

Morocco’s imports from Turkiye were approximately 18.33 billion dirhams ($1.87 billion) in 2020, rising to 22.5 billion dirhams ($2.3 billion) in 2021.
