Turkey’s Chemical Industry Exports Reach $3 Billion in March

ISTANBUL — Turkey’s chemical industry recorded approximately $3 billion in exports in March, maintaining its position as one of the country’s leading export sectors.

According to data from the Turkish Exporters Assembly, Turkey’s total exports for March 2026 stood at $21.9 billion, with the chemical sector accounting for 15.2% of the total.

Strong First-Quarter Performance

The sector closed the first quarter of 2026 with exports exceeding $7.5 billion, continuing to rank as Turkey’s second-largest exporting industry.

Exports also showed year-on-year growth, increasing by 8.7% compared to March of the previous year, when exports totaled around $2.7 billion.

Industry Resilience Despite Global Challenges

Adil Pelister, Chairman of the Istanbul Chemicals and Chemical Products Exporters’ Association, stated that the sector managed to boost exports despite ongoing geopolitical tensions and regional conflicts.

Pelister highlighted that:

  • Rising tensions in the Gulf region have caused fluctuations in energy and oil prices
  • Disruptions in logistics and supply chains have increased cost pressures
  • The sector remains heavily dependent on energy and petrochemical inputs

Despite these challenges, he emphasized that the performance should be seen as a “major success” and praised exporters for their resilience.

Opportunities in Nearby Markets

Pelister also noted that shifting global supply chains and increased focus on supply security—particularly in Europe—could create competitive advantages for Turkey’s chemical industry.

He added that efforts are ongoing to:

  • Diversify export markets
  • Strengthen trade delegations
  • Expand cooperation in alternative regions

Outlook

While global economic uncertainty, inflation, and geopolitical conflicts continue to pose risks, industry representatives remain optimistic about sustaining export growth and strengthening Turkey’s position in international markets.
