Turkey’s current account balance expected to post $3.98B gap in December

Survey shows industrial production to increase by 11% in December

Turkiye’s current account balance for December is expected to post a deficit of $3.98 billion, according to an Anadolu Agency survey on Wednesday.

A group of 27 economists’ estimates for the month ranged between $2.5 billion and $4.8 billion.

The survey showed the end-2021 current account balance is expected to show a deficit of $14.6 billion, with estimates ranging between $12.5 billion and $15.7 billion.

The Turkish Central Bank will release the balance of payments figures on Friday.

In November, the current account posted a $2.68 billion deficit.

Industrial production

Another Anadolu Agency survey on Wednesday showed that Turkiye’s calendar-adjusted industrial production index for December 2021 is expected to rise by 10.8%.

A group of eight economists’ estimates for the month ranged between 9.5% and 13.3%.


The Turkish Statistical Institute or TurkStat is due to release official figures on Friday.

The index was up by 11.4% in November on an annual basis.
