Employment record in the real estate sector

In August, the number of paid employees in the “real estate activities” sector in Turkiye reached 122 thousand 224, reaching an all-time high.

According to information compiled from Turkish Statistical Institute data, the number of paid employees in the industry, construction and trade-service sectors in the country increased to 15 million 289 thousand 258 people in August.

When we look at the sub-distribution of the employment in question, the increase in the number of employees in the “real estate activities” sector attracted attention. It has been observed that the number of paid employees in the sector has increased regularly in the last 5 months.

In February, when the Kahramanmaras-centered earthquakes occurred, the number of paid employees in the sector remained at the lowest level of this year with 115 thousand 50. Employment in the sector, which followed a fluctuating course in the last two months after the earthquake, entered an upward trend after April.

While employment in the sector was 115 thousand 548 in April, it reached 118 thousand 663 in May, 119 thousand 540 in June, 121 thousand 724 in July and 122 thousand 224 in August, the highest level of all time.

After the earthquakes that affected 11 provinces, employment in the sector increased by 7 thousand 174 people.

Real estate businesses with foreign partners increased

Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) Real Estate Services Professional Committee Chairman Hakan Akdogan said that foreign real estate businesses were also effective in the increase in employment. Akdogan said, “According to the data of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkiye (TOBB), real estate agencies ranked 5th in the list of the most established foreign joint-capital companies in the January-August period of this year, with 1976.”

Akdogan emphasized that the real estate business has recently left the retirement job and turned into a profession preferred by many university graduates, making a positive contribution to the employment of the sector, and stated that young people work in many different fields such as land development, investment consultancy, property management and project marketing.

Akdogan stated that especially the branding process in the sector will increase and the perspectives of real estate businesses will continue to change, and said, “Real estate markets will always remain dynamic and continue to grow in our country, where more than 3 million properties are sold annually.”

Demanding a solution to informality in the sector, Akdogan stated that discipline and control mechanisms should work effectively to prevent unfair competition.
