Minister Bolat: We aim for Turkiye to be among the top 10 economies

Minister Bolat said, “We aim for Turkiye to be among the top 10 economies in the world in 2053 and among the top 5 economies in the world according to purchasing power parity.”

Minister of Commerce Omer Bolat expressed his satisfaction with being in the city at the opening of the HORASIS Global Meeting held in Gaziantep with the participation of international investors and senior executives (CEOs), and said that he witnessed Gaziantep’s further development every time he visited.

Explaining that the people of Gaziantep have become stronger in unity and solidarity, Bolat stated that other provinces should take Gaziantep, which has the fifth most developed economy of Turkiye, as an example with its imports and exports.

Bolat also reacted to Israel’s attacks on Gaza and invited all people and countries with conscience to take action against the attacks.

Referring to the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaras, Bolat said, “There was a great destruction. We experienced an economic loss of around $104 billion. It is our duty to rebuild these cities and make them more beautiful, better quality, more livable and more prosperous than before. Our government is rapidly healing the wounds of the earthquake disaster in unity and solidarity with all its institutions and our nation.”

“We will carry out structural transformations”

Minister Bolat also touched upon the new government program and continued as follows:

“We aimed for a Turkiye that is environmentally friendly, resistant to disasters and advanced technology, produces high added value, shares income fairly, and is stable, strong and prosperous. In this vision, our 12th Development Plan consists of 5 main axes: stable growth, strong economy, competitive production with green and digital transformation, qualified people, strong family, healthy society, disaster-resistant living spaces, sustainable environment, democratic and good governance based on justice. Within the framework of our country’s 2053 vision, as a country in the upper income group of the Turkish economy, we will realize structural transformations that encourage competitiveness and innovation on a global scale. We aim for Turkiye to be among the top 10 economies in the world by 2053 and among the top 5 economies in the world according to purchasing power parity. We also aim to have at least 5 brands among the 100 most valuable brands in the world by supporting branding. On the other hand, it is among our goals that our share of the global economy will exceed 2% in 2053, and this rate will increase even more when we include service trade.”

Minister Bolat stated that in this century, humanity is faced with many known and unknown parameters and explained that countries and products are being repositioned.

Bolat stated that it is important for policies to be inclusive and balanced in order for Turkiye to benefit from the change process to the maximum extent.

“We find the sustainability goal very valuable”

Emphasizing that the concept of sustainability is of great importance, Bolat continued his words as follows:

“We find the 17 sustainability targets adopted by all member states at the United Nations in 2015 very valuable and believe that it is very important for us to achieve the targets by 2030. We believe that international economic and political decision-making mechanisms should be more fair and based on multilateralism. As our President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expresses at every opportunity and on international platforms, we will continue to insistently emphasize the thesis that the world is bigger than five and that a more just world is possible.”

“We aim to transition to a system that aims for green transformation”

Minister Bolat stated that, as Turkiye, they have created their own road map within the scope of the green agreement process initiated by the European Union, and added:

“Under the coordination of our Ministry of Commerce, the green agreement action plan was published in 2020. With this action plan, we aim to transition to a system that aims for green transformation in economy-based production, trade, winding, logistics, finance and many other areas. As the Ministry of Commerce, we undertake the coordination role and support the documents and certification studies that our exporting companies will need in the green transformation in order to support the transition to a sustainable resource-effective green economy in line with our country’s development goals. In addition, as the ministry, we also cover the consultancy expenses of our companies benefiting from brand supports, such as decarbonization road map and carbon footprint calculation. We provide consultancy services and support packages to SMEs on issues such as raising awareness, determining a road map, determining methods and targets, and needs analysis on issues such as resources, processes, energy efficiency and digitalization.”

Bolat emphasized that they will continue to prioritize sustainable and innovative projects in every field, from transportation to agriculture, from health to defense industry and energy, within the framework of the Turkiye Century vision, and added that everyone who lends a friendly hand will continue to be on the air.

Gaziantep Governor Kemal Ceber also touched upon the geopolitical importance of Gaziantep and pointed out that the city has been a leading city throughout history.

Metropolitan Mayor Fatma Sahin stated that 280 thousand people work in organized industrial zones in the city, especially in textile, food and carpet sectors.

After the opening speeches, the meeting continued with the participants exchanging ideas behind closed doors.

On the other hand, Minister Bolat also visited Gaziantep Governorship and met with Ceber.
