Turkey’s first chemical fertilizer factory will restart production in 2023

GUBRETAS General Manager Ibrahim Yumakli stated that Turkey’s first chemical fertilizer factory located in Iskenderun district of Hatay will restart production for Turkish farmers as of 2023.

GUBRETAS General Manager Ibrahim Yumakli said, “In order to ensure that our farmers can reach the required product more quickly and under suitable conditions, we have completed our projects to re-engage the NPK production facilities in Iskenderun, which has not been engaged in any production activity since 2007 and provides port services.”

Yumakli told Anadolu Agency (AA) that GUBRETAS was established in 1952 with the decision of the Council of Ministers as a result of the initiatives of the late Adnan Menderes.

Reminding that the first seeds of the company were planted in Iskenderun Sariseki in 1954, Yumakli emphasized that the city is important for GUBRETAS.

Underlining that the facilities opened with a ceremony attended by President Celal Bayar on April 25, 1954, had a production capacity of 100 thousand tons at that time, Yumakli stated that with the new facility investments made over the years, the current annual solid fertilizer production capacity of GUBRETAS has reached 985 thousand tons.

He stated that production facilities, 5 different logistics centers, 2 ports, 8 regional directorates, 4 laboratories and R&D centers were established in 2 different cities in Turkey and that they fulfilled their responsibilities with social responsibility projects.

Referring to the fact that GUBRETAS has turned into a great sycamore, Yumakli said, “GUBRETAS continues its activities as a leader in the sector in Turkey, providing and producing one-third of the fertilizer and nutritional products consumed, and offering this to the service of all our farmers 12 months a year.”

Stating that they always have a policy that transforms their earnings into new investments, Yumakli stated that various port expansion projects and modern storage facilities were built in the process.

Emphasizing that they have made plans with various startups for new investments where the first GUBRETAS seed was planted and developed, Yumakli said:

“In order to ensure that our farmers reach the required product more quickly and under suitable conditions, we have completed our projects to re-engage the NPK production facilities in Iskenderun, which has not been involved in any production activities since 2007 and provides port services. Thanks to this new NPK facility investment of 200 thousand tons, we will increase our existing compound fertilizer production capacity by 25%. If God wills, we will put this facility into the service of Turkish agriculture in early 2023.”
