Turkey’s Nakkas Holding Signs Deal to Supply Azerbaijani Gas to Syria

Nakkaş Holding, a Turkish conglomerate established in 2023, has signed an agreement to supply 1.6 million cubic meters of Azerbaijani natural gas per day to Syria via Turkey.

The deal, signed in Damascus between the Syrian Ministry of Energy’s Petroleum Directorate and Nakkaş Holding, aims to strengthen energy infrastructure and enhance supply security. On behalf of Syria, the agreement was signed by Deputy Energy Minister and Petroleum Directorate head Giyas Diyab, while Batuhan Alkan, Planning and Finance Director of Nakkaş Holding, represented the Turkish side.

Expanding Energy Cooperation
Both parties expressed their commitment to deepening cooperation in the energy sector to support infrastructure development and improve supply efficiency in the coming period.

The move comes as Syria seeks new energy sources to improve its electricity supply. The agreement complements earlier arrangements with Azerbaijan’s SOCAR and Turkey’s BOTAŞ.

In parallel, the first phase of a Qatar-financed natural gas pipeline project has also begun, designed to deliver around 3.4 million cubic meters of gas per day from Azerbaijan via Turkey to Syria. The gas will primarily be used to operate gas-fired power plants.
