Turkish agricultural sector broke a record in exports in January-February

The agricultural sector achieved the highest January-February export of all time with $5 billion 434 million.

Despite the disruptions in economic activity after the Kahramanmaras-centered earthquakes, the agricultural sector continues to break records in exports.

Turkiye’s agricultural sector realized the highest January-February export of all time with $5 billion 434 million. Agricultural exports, which increased by 2.7% in the first 2 months of the year compared to the same period of 2022, took a 16.2% share from Turkiye’s total export sales.

5 out of 10 sectors operating in agriculture broke export records.

Realized the highest January-February export of all time with $1 billion 820 million of cereals, pulses, oilseeds and products, ornamental plants and products $30 million 146 thousand, furniture, paper and forest products $1 billion 204 million, $634 million 488 thousand of fresh fruits and vegetables, $201 million 220 thousand of olives and olive oil.

In January-February 2023, compared to the same period of the previous year, cereals, pulses, oilseeds and their products increased by 3%, and fresh fruits and vegetables increased by 17.9%, olive oil increased by 140.2%, ornamental plants and products by 7.2%, and furniture, paper and forestry products by 2.1%.

Exports of the grain industry to Iraq exceeded $295 million

Looking at the exports of record-breaking sectors by country, in the first 2 months, grain, pulses, oilseeds and their products were sold to Iraq for $296 million 749 thousand, furniture, paper and forestry products for $129 million 180 thousand. Fresh fruit and vegetables sold for $173 million 401 thousand to the Russian Federation, $67 million 417 thousand for the olive and olive oil sector to Spain, $8 million 182 thousand for ornamental plants and products to the Netherlands.

On the basis of provinces, $562 million 714 thousand of cereals, pulses, oilseeds and their products, $540 million 455 thousand of furniture, paper and forest products were exported from Istanbul.

$167 million 872 thousand of fresh fruit and vegetables were sold from Mersin, $93 million 372 thousand of olives and olive oil from Izmir, $13 million 666 thousand of ornamental plants and products from Antalya were exported.

Agricultural exports of 3 provinces affected by the earthquake increased

Although the Kahramanmaras-centered earthquake affected the economic activities of 11 provinces, the agricultural exports of the 3 provinces affected by the earthquake increased.

Exports of companies operating in the agricultural sector in Adana, Adıyaman and Kahramanmaras increased in the first 2 months of the year compared to the same period of 2022. Accordingly, agricultural exports reached $153 million 620 thousand with an increase of 10.4% in Adana, $2 million 506 thousand with an increase of 25.5% in Adiyaman, and $13 million 716 thousand in Kahramanmaras with an increase of 4.8%.
