The number of foreign tourists coming to Istanbul in August 2023 increased by 13.20% compared to the same period of the previous year and by 4.9% compared to the previous month.
While 1 million 747 thousand 611 foreign visitors were hosted in Istanbul in August, the most foreign tourists came from the Russian Federation with 179 thousand 17 people, Germany with 127 thousand 486 people, Iran with 101 thousand 459 people and the USA with 81 thousand 257 people. This was followed by Saudi Arabia with 74 thousand 664 people, England with 72 thousand 2 people and France with 61 thousand 850 people.
Istanbul Airport served 8 million 85 thousand 738 foreign visitors in the first 8 months of the year and 1 million 235 thousand 473 in August.
The share of Istanbul Airport in the total number of foreign visitors arriving in Istanbul by air in August was 72.69%. 462 thousand 575 foreigners entered Sabiha Gokcen Airport in August.
While Sabiha Gokcen Airport was the second border gate through which the most foreign visitors entered, it constituted 27.22% of foreigners entering Istanbul by air.
The number of foreigners arriving by air is 1 million 699 thousand 549
The number of foreign visitors arriving in Istanbul by air in August increased by 3.9% compared to the same month last year, reaching 1 million 699 thousand 549.
The number of foreigners arriving by sea is 48 thousand 62
The number of foreigners coming to Istanbul by sea in August increased by 58.61 compared to the same month last year, reaching 48 thousand 62.
The total number of visits to facilities certified by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism was 1 million 277 thousand 350 in July this year.
While a total of 3 million 1 thousand 528 overnight stays were made in these facilities, the average length of stay was 2.35 days. The occupancy rate of accommodation facilities in Istanbul in July was 64.36%.
