Turkish Airlines to Invest $42 Million in Biofuel Producer DB Tarımsal Enerji

April 2, 2026

Turkish Airlines (THY) has announced a $42 million investment in DB Tarımsal Enerji as part of its strategy to secure sustainable aviation fuel supply and strengthen the domestic aviation ecosystem.

40% Stake Targeted

According to a disclosure filed with Turkey’s Public Disclosure Platform, the airline plans to acquire a 40% stake in the Izmir-based biofuel producer through a combination of capital increase and partial share transfer. The binding offer was accepted on April 1, 2026, and formal transaction procedures have been initiated.

Focus on Sustainable Aviation Fuel

The investment aims to meet the growing demand for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) driven by global environmental regulations and the company’s sustainability goals. The partnership is also expected to support the development of a local supply infrastructure for aviation fuel in Turkey.

New Production Facility Planned

Funds generated from the investment will be used to finance a new SAF production facility, which is expected to become operational by 2029. The plant is projected to have an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons of sustainable aviation fuel.

Long-Term Supply Agreements on the Agenda

As part of the deal, Turkish Airlines is also considering a long-term off-take agreement to secure fuel supply and optimize costs. The facility is expected to enhance supply security while contributing to the airline’s carbon reduction targets.

Strategic Move Toward Energy Independence

The investment reflects a broader strategic shift toward localized and sustainable fuel production, reducing reliance on external suppliers and supporting Turkey’s aviation and energy sectors.
