Turkish automotive industry broke a record in exports in March

Turkiye’s automotive industry broke a historical record on a monthly basis with exports of $3.3 billion in March. March export sales of the sector increased by 22.8% compared to the same month of the previous year and reached $3.3 billion.

According to the statement made by the Uludag Automotive Industry Exporters’ Association (OIB), the exports of the Turkish automotive industry in March increased by 22.8% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached $3.3 billion. The share of the automotive industry, which ranks first in Turkiye’s exports, in the country’s exports was 13.9%.

In the first three months of the year, the exports of the automotive industry increased by 15.8% and reached $8 billion 619 million.

15% increase in the largest product group “supply industry”

The exports of the “supply industry”, the largest sub-product group of the automotive industry, increased by 15% last month to $1 billion 333 million.

March exports of “passenger cars” increased by 47% to 1 billion $7 million, exports of “motor vehicles for transporting goods” decreased by 9% to $483 million, Exports of “tractors” increased by 78% to $252 million, and “bus-minibus-midibus exports” increased by 47% to $179 million.

Exports increased to Germany, France and the United Kingdom

In March, $475 million were exported to Germany, the largest market on a country basis. The second largest market, France, with an increase of 97%, amounted to $434 million, and to the United Kingdom, with an increase of 15%, $309 million were exported.

In the sector, exports increased by 22% to Italy, 46% to Spain, 32% to Poland, 16% to Slovenia, 40% to Romania and 350% to Russia.

Exports of $2 billion 310 million were made to the European Union countries, which is the largest market with a share of 70% on the basis of country group, in March, an increase of 29% compared to the same month of the previous year.

While other European countries ranked second among country groups with a share of 12%, exports to this country group increased by 20%. There was a 212% increase in exports to the Commonwealth of Independent States.

OIB Chairman of the Board Baran Celik, whose views are included in the statement, stated that there were high-rate increases in the exports of “passenger cars” and “tractors” in March.

Emphasizing that they recorded double-digit and high-rate increases in France, Spain and Poland on a country basis, Celik said, “The historical record we achieved on a monthly basis in March was an important motivation for us to reach our target of $34 billion in the 100th anniversary of our Republic. Despite all the negativities experienced on a global scale, we are focused on contributing to the export-oriented growth of our country.”
