Turkish Banking Sector Posts TRY 87.2 Billion Net Profit in January

Ankara – The Turkish banking sector recorded a net profit of 87.249 billion lira in January, according to data released by the Bankacılık Düzenleme ve Denetleme Kurumu (BDDK).

In its “Unconsolidated Main Indicators of the Turkish Banking Sector” report for January, the regulator said the sector’s total assets reached 48.574 trillion lira during the month, marking an increase of 1.627 trillion lira compared to the end of 2025.

Loans, the largest asset item in the sector, stood at 23.646 trillion lira in January, while securities totaled 7.053 trillion lira.

Compared to the end of 2025, total assets increased by 3.5 percent, total loans rose by 2.2 percent, and securities grew by 0.6 percent. The non-performing loan (NPL) ratio stood at 2.57 percent during the same period.

Deposits, the largest source of funding for banks, climbed 2.2 percent from the end of 2025 to 27.829 trillion lira.

The banking sector’s total equity increased by 2.5 percent to 4.260 trillion lira compared to year-end 2025.

In addition to the 87.249 billion lira net profit recorded in January, the sector’s capital adequacy standard ratio was reported at 16.77 percent.
