Exports to the UAE increased by more than 50% with President Erdogan’s visit

President Erdogan’s visit to the UAE last month started to show its effects on foreign trade in a short time. The visit was an important step in strengthening the political and economic relations between the two countries.

After the visit of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Turkey on November 24, 2021, President Erdogan’s visit to the UAE last month was recorded as a historical development.

Within the scope of the visit, 13 agreements were signed between the government of the Republic of Turkey and the government of the UAE in the fields of defense industry, health, climate change, industry, technology, culture, agriculture, trade, economy, land and sea transportation, youth, disaster management, meteorology, communication and archives.

The contacts made began to bear fruit in Turkey’s exports to the UAE.

According to the information compiled by AA correspondent from the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), Turkey’s exports to the UAE increased by 52.4% in February compared to January and rose to $303 million 242 thousand. Exports to the UAE increased by 29.1% compared to the same period last year.

UAE became the 17th country to which Turkey exports the most in February. In January, the UAE was the 18th country with the highest export volume.

THE JEWELERY INDUSTRY CAME TO THE FORE

The jewelry industry made the most exports to the UAE with $90 million 861 thousand last month.

Defense and aerospace industry with $35 million 387 thousand, chemicals and products with $22 million 740 thousand, carpet with $15 million 767 thousand, cereals, pulses, oil seeds and products sectors with $15 million 600 thousand followed jewelry.

In the said period, the highest increase in foreign sales to the country on the basis of value was in the jewelry sector. The jewelry industry’s exports to the UAE increased by $44 million 907 thousand in February compared to the previous month.

The jewelry industry was followed by the defense and aerospace industry with $35 million 344 thousand, carpet with $5 million 113 thousand, chemicals and products with $3 million 402 thousand, and the automotive industry with $3 million 59 thousand.

During this period, the automotive industry exported $12 million 829 thousand to the country.

Last month, the highest amount of foreign sales to the UAE was made from Istanbul with $162 million 471 thousand. Exports were $37 million 319 thousand from Corum, $16 million 347 thousand from Gaziantep, $12 million 399 thousand from Izmir and $11 million 448 thousand from Ankara.
