ANKARA — Turkish contractors won 57 international projects worth a combined $2.7 billion across 27 countries during the first six months of 2026, maintaining Turkey’s position among the world’s top 10 international contracting markets, according to data compiled from the Turkish Ministry of Trade.
The overseas contracting sector has experienced fluctuating project volumes in recent years. Turkish firms undertook projects worth approximately $18 billion in 2020 before reaching a record $32 billion in 2021. Project values declined to $20 billion in 2022 amid the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, then rebounded to $28.8 billion in 2023 and $29.9 billion in 2024. In 2025, contractors secured 321 projects valued at $25.7 billion.
Since 1972, Turkish contractors have completed 12,931 projects across 138 countries, with a cumulative value of $566.1 billion. The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) remains the largest regional market, accounting for 42.7% of all overseas projects undertaken by Turkish firms. The Middle East follows with 25.4%, while Africa represents 18.5% of the total portfolio. Europe accounts for 10.4%, and Asia for 2.6%.
The sector’s average project value has also shifted over time. After reaching $80.2 million in 2025, the average size of overseas contracts awarded during the first half of 2026 stood at $47.7 million, reflecting a greater number of relatively smaller projects.
Roads, tunnels and bridges continue to account for the largest share of Turkish contractors’ overseas work, followed by residential developments, power plants, railway infrastructure and commercial centers, highlighting the industry’s diversified international portfolio.
