Turkish E-Export Companies Rise 40% Since 2022, Target Set at $1 Billion

The number of Turkish companies generating more than $10,000 in annual e-exports has increased by 40.4% since 2022, reaching 11,420 in 2025, according to the Ministry of Trade.

Hasan Önal, Head of the E-Export, Digital Marketing, Behavioral Public Policies and New Generation Technologies Department at the Ministry of Trade’s Directorate General for Exports, said the number of companies engaged in significant e-export activity rose from 8,132 in 2022 to 11,420 in 2025.

Türkiye Targets $6 Billion in E-Exports

Önal said Türkiye aims to close 2026 with $6 billion in e-export revenues. The country also aims to increase the share of e-exports in total exports to 10%.

The remarks were made ahead of the Istanbul Global E-Export Summit (IGEXX 2026), which will take place at the Haliç Congress Center from September 3-5. The event, coordinated by the Ministry of Trade in cooperation with the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) and the Electronic Commerce Operators Association (ETİD), will bring together major global e-commerce marketplaces.

$1 Billion Transaction Volume Expected at Summit

TİM Vice President Çetin Tecdelioğlu said the 2024 edition of the summit generated more than $1 billion in transaction volume, contributing positively to Türkiye’s exports.

He said organizers expect another $1 billion-plus transaction volume this year, noting that companies are increasingly eager to secure a share of the rapidly expanding e-export market.

“All companies want to gain market share through e-exports, and their appetite is very high,” Tecdelioğlu said.

He added that companies can use Ministry of Trade resources to determine which marketplaces to enter in different countries, how to establish stores, and what tax obligations they may face. Artificial intelligence is also being used to help businesses identify where their products can be sold more competitively.

Global E-Commerce Expected to Reach $7 Trillion

Hasan Önal said global e-commerce, which was worth approximately $3.2 trillion in 2019, is expected to reach $7 trillion in 2026.

This year’s summit will host 50 global marketplaces and feature 28 panels. According to Önal, these 50 marketplaces collectively account for approximately $2.75 trillion in global trade.

He highlighted the growing importance of China in digital commerce, noting that companies and marketplaces from China, India, Brazil and Latin America will participate in the summit.

Türkiye Focuses on “Global Localization”

Önal said Türkiye’s e-export strategy is increasingly focused on a “global localization” model rather than simply shipping products directly from Türkiye to individual consumers.

Under the model, Turkish companies can store goods in the destination market and deliver them locally to customers. The Ministry has structured its e-export support mechanisms accordingly.

He also noted that marketplace commission support, previously limited to eight countries, has been expanded to 35 countries following the introduction of new trade measures.

E-Commerce Volume Reaches $115 Billion

Tecdelioğlu said Türkiye’s overall e-commerce volume has reached TRY 4.5 trillion, equivalent to approximately $115 billion, while the number of companies active in the digital economy has reached 634,000.

He said the objective is to strengthen Turkish brands globally and turn Istanbul into a digital hub connecting international marketplaces, logistics companies and Turkish producers.

The broader strategy is aimed at helping Turkish companies, particularly SMEs, expand internationally and capture a larger share of the rapidly growing global e-commerce market.
