ANKARA — Turkish Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek said the designation of Batman Airport as a permanent international air border crossing will strengthen the region’s global connectivity and unlock new opportunities in tourism, trade, and logistics.
In a statement shared on social media, Şimşek described the decision as a significant milestone for southeastern Türkiye, saying it would integrate the region more closely with international transportation networks.
“The declaration of Batman Airport as a permanent international air border crossing is an important step that will strengthen our region’s links to international transportation networks and pave the way for new opportunities in tourism, trade, and logistics,” Şimşek said. “We will continue to pursue policies that support regional development while strengthening our production and export infrastructure.”
Batman Airport officially received its new status under a presidential decree signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and published in the Official Gazette on July 11, 2026, pursuant to Article 1 of Türkiye’s Passport Law No. 5682. The designation allows the airport to operate as a permanent international border gateway.
The move is expected to facilitate international air traffic, enhance the region’s economic connectivity, and support long-term development by encouraging tourism, expanding trade links, and improving logistics capabilities.
