Turkish furniture industry exported $ 3.1B in the first 11 months

Huseyin Taklaci evaluated the year 2020 in terms of the Turkish furniture industry and explained his expectations for 2021. Stating that the economy and health problems experienced due to the Covid-19 outbreak affected many sectors, Taklaci noted that despite these negativities, their business lines continue to grow rapidly. Taklaci pointed out that he expects the increasing business volumes to increase even more in recent years, he said:

‘’We rose to the 8th place in the world in terms of furniture production and export. Furniture imports, which decreased every year, was around $ 550 million this year. Epidemic, large facilities’ transition to a partial working model, and Siteler style boutique manufacturers paved the way for tradesmen. Most of the production was carried out by small and medium-sized tradesmen.’’

‘’ Postponed marriages are also reflected positively on sales in 2021. ‘’

Emphasizing that those who produce handcrafted and high value-added products with traditional methods such as Siteler are very few in the world, Taklaci said:

‘’ There are weddings and marriages delayed due to Covid-19. As the epidemic decreases or ends, these will be reflected positively on furniture sales in 2021. ‘’

Taklaci pointed out that they are aiming to enter the top 6 in the world furniture export next year, and said:

‘’ Our furniture exports continue with each passing year above the previous year. Our exports, which were $ 3.1 billion in 11 months this year, are at the level of $ 4 billion with indirect products. 2021 will be a special year for the furniture industry. We are sure that we will increase our share to 3 percent next year. Moreover, Turkish furniture prices have become attractive especially in Europe with the fluctuations in the exchange rate, we are making good use of this advantage. ‘’
