Turkiye: Furniture, paper and forestry products exports reached 2021 figures

The 10-month exports of the furniture, paper and forestry products sector reached $6.92 billion, reaching the overall export figure of 2021.

According to the data compiled from the figures of the Istanbul Furniture, Paper and Forestry Products Exporters’ Association, the exports of the sector in January-October 2022 increased by 24% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached $6.92 billion.

While the increase in exports across the country was 15% in 10 months ($209.5 billion), the increase in the furniture, paper and forestry products sector was 9 points above this figure. Thanks to the 24% increase, the sector almost caught the $6.99 billion figure it made throughout 2021.

The share of the furniture industry from this figure amounted to $3.93 billion. The increase in exports in this area was recorded as 13.9%.

The exports of the furniture, paper and forestry products sector, which increased its export share with its investments in potential market places, increased by 14.8% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached $704 million.

In January-October, the most furniture exports were made to Iraq

Iraq took the lead with $432.1 million among the countries to which the furniture industry exports the most in the January-October period, followed by Germany with $333 million.

Israel ranked third with $207.8 million, the USA fourth with $204 million, and France fifth with $177.5 million in furniture exports.

While Qatar continues to be the country with the highest increase in exports this year with 97%, furniture sales to this country reached $177.3 million.

Among the products that stood out in furniture exports during the period were bedsteads and cradles for children, furniture for sitting, wooden furniture for dining and living rooms, metal furniture and furniture for sitting that could be turned into beds.

Year-end target in furniture exports is $5 billion

Erkan Ozkan, President of Istanbul Furniture, Paper and Forestry Products Exporters’ Association, said that the export of the furniture industry, which not only renews itself in line with current needs, but also brings furniture suitable for consumer trends to the world, reached the limit of $4 billion in 10 months.

Ozkan stated that they are working with all their strength as all components in order to further increase the development of the sector and its contribution to the Turkish economy. “Although there are problems in raw material and supply points all over the world, our exporting companies are affected at the minimum level by the bilateral relations they have established. We aim to reach $5 billion by maintaining our current success in the last 2 months of the year.”
