Ege Region Leads with $74 Million in Spice Exports, Aiming for $250 Million by Year-End
In the first half of the year, Turkiye’s spice industry achieved an impressive export figure of $113 million. Muhammet Ozturk, Chairman of the Aegean Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds, and Products Exporters’ Association, highlighted the growing global demand for spices in a written statement.
Ozturk emphasized Turkiye’s leadership in bay leaf and thyme exports, noting the country’s position as a significant supplier of various other spices. He stated:
“The Turkish spice industry achieved $113 million in exports in the first half of the year. The Aegean Region contributed $74 million to this figure, showcasing its strength in spice exports as in previous years. For the second half of 2024, we aim to maintain our performance and reach a national export target of $250 million.”
In detail, Ozturk reported a 57% increase in bay leaf exports, reaching $36 million, an 11% rise in thyme exports to $27 million, and a 27% growth in black and red pepper exports to $10.6 million.
