Turkish stock market closes higher on Monday

BIST 100 index gains over 88 points from previous close

Turkiye’s benchmark stock index Borsa Istanbul closed at 2,527.15 points on Monday with a daily gain of 3.62%.

Starting the day at 2,466.88 points, the index rose 88.31 points from Friday’s close of 2,438.84.

The index’s lowest value during the day was 2,466.70 points and its highest was 2,539.12.

Its total market value was more than 2 trillion Turkish liras ($125 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of over 47 billion Turkish liras ($2.8 billion).

During the first transaction day of the week, 96 stocks on the index rose and four fell compared to Friday’s close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines,automotive firm Karsan and steel producer Eregli.

Turkish Airlines was the best performer of the day, with its shares up 10%, while conglomerate Net Holding saw the biggest drop of 0.71%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,857.50 by market close, up from $1,855 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was up 1% to $116.70 per barrel as of 6.20 p.m. local time (1520GMT).
