Turkish stock market closes lower on Monday

BIST 100 index loses over 32 points from previous close

Turkiye’s benchmark stock index Borsa Istanbul closed at 2,510.14 points on Monday with a daily loss of 1.3%.

Starting the day at 2,536.79 points, the index decreased 32.96 points from Friday’s close of 2,543.10.

The index’s lowest value during the day was 2,506.04 points and its highest was 2,552.17.

Its total market value was more than 2 trillion Turkish liras ($120 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of over 36.2 billion Turkish liras ($2.1 billion).

During the first transaction day of the week,26 stocks on the index rose, 72 fell, and two remained unchanged compared to Friday’s close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, steel producer Eregli, and glassmaker Sise Cam.

Conglomerate Bera Holding was the best performer of the day with its shares up 8.08%, while Eregli saw the biggest drop of 6.32%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,851 by market close, up from $1,840.80 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was down 1.93% to $119.66 per barrel as of 6.13 p.m. local time (1513GMT).
