Turkish stock market closes lower on Thursday

BIST 100 index loses over 31 points from previous close

Turkiye’s benchmark stock index Borsa Istanbul closed at 2,543.21 points on Thursday, with a daily loss of 1.21%.

Starting the day at 2,576.07 points, the index shed 31.09 points from Wednesday’s close of 2,574.30.

Its lowest value during the day was 2,533.86 points, while the highest was 2,588.68.

The total market value was more than 2 trillion Turkish liras ($120 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of over 31 billion Turkish liras ($1.8 billion).

On the fourth transaction day of the week, 30 stocks on the index rose, 63 fell, and seven remained unchanged compared to Wednesday’s close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, glassmaker Sise Cam, and steel producer Eregli.

Conglomerate Bera Holding was the best performer of the day with its shares up 9.99%, while investment and development bank Türkiye Sinai Kalkinma Bankasi saw the biggest drop of 3.54%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,820 by market close, down from $1,833.30 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was down 1.5% to $110.09 per barrel as of 7.35 p.m.local time (1635GMT).
