Turkey: Export and import unit value indices rose in March

The export unit value index increased by 10.7% in March compared to the same month of the previous year, and the import unit value index increased by 33.7%.

Turkish Statistical Institute announced the foreign trade indices for the month of March. Accordingly, the export unit value index increased by 10.7% in March compared to the same month of the previous year.

Compared to March 2021, the index increased by 6% in food, beverages and tobacco, 16.8% in raw materials (excluding fuel), 79.1% in fuels and 7.9% in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages, tobacco).

Export unit value index increased by 9.4% in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.

The import unit value index rose 33.7% year-on-year in March. Compared to the same month of the previous year, the index increased by 12.4% in food, beverages and tobacco, 19.2% in raw materials (excluding fuel), 174.2% in fuels and 10.1% in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages and tobacco).

The import unit value index increased by 37.1% in the first quarter of this year compared to the first quarter of last year.

EXPORT AMOUNT INDEX

Export quantity index increased by 8.2% in March compared to the same month of the previous year. In the same period, the index rose 22.3% in food, beverages and tobacco, 0.8% in raw materials (excluding fuel), 32.7% in fuels and 8.7% in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages and tobacco).

The export quantity index increased by 10.4% in the first quarter of the year compared to the same period of the previous year.

The import quantity index decreased by 2.2% on an annual basis in March. In this period, while the index decreased by 19.5% in food, beverages and tobacco, 7.2% in raw materials (excluding fuel) and 7.1% in fuels, it increased by 1.6% in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages and tobacco).

The import quantity index increased by 3.6% in the first quarter of this year compared to the first quarter of 2021.

SEASONAL AND CALENDAR ADJUSTED DATA

According to the seasonally and calendar adjusted series, the export quantity index, which was 150.4 in February, decreased by 3.9% to 144.5 in March. According to the calendar-adjusted series, the export quantity index, which was 142.8 in March 2021, increased by 8.2% to 154.5 in the same month of this year.

According to the seasonally and calendar adjusted series, the import quantity index, which was 114.6 in February, decreased by 4.2% to 109.8 in March. According to the calendar-adjusted series, the import quantity index, which was 115.6 in March last year, decreased by 2.2% to 113.1 in the same month of this year.

The terms of foreign trade, which was calculated by dividing the export unit value index by the import unit value index and recorded as 91 in March 2021, decreased by 15.7 points to 75.3 in March this year.

In the first quarter of 2022, the terms of foreign trade decreased by 19 points compared to the same period of the previous year and became 74.9.
