Turkish stocks looking down at Tuesday close

Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 down over 1% from previous close amid Russia-Ukraine tensions

Turkiye’s benchmark stock index ended Tuesday at 2,017.46 points, down 1.01% from the previous close, amid mounting tensions between Russia and Ukraine.

Starting the day at 1,995 points,Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index lost 20.60 points from Monday’s close of 2,038.06 points.

During Tuesday’s trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 1,979.94 points and 2,032.82 points – 13 stocks on the index rose, 85 fell, and two were flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the day with a market value of around 1.6 trillion Turkish liras ($116.6 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 27.8 billion Turkish liras ($2 billion).

Shares of national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, iron/steel producer Kardemir and automotive manufacturer Karsan posted the highest trading volumes.

Stocks of telecommunications giant Turkcell climbed the most, 4.24%, while shares of leading airport operator TAV Airports Holding dropped the most, 4.15%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,901.05 by market close, up from $1,890 at the previous close.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $93.72 per barrel as of 6.20 p.m. local time (1520GMT).
