Minister of Commerce Mehmet Mus stated that they want to reach the target of $100 billion in mutual trade with Russia, “We want to develop trade with Russia on a win-win basis in a balanced way. We have serious cooperation in the field of energy. We want to shift and expand our cooperation there to different fields of energy.”

Trade Minister Mehmet Mus evaluated his visit to Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, and the 17th Turkey-Russia Intergovernmental Joint Economic Commission (KEK) Meeting, which he attended in Moscow, the capital of Russia, to AA correspondent.

Explaining that he participated in the “12th Kazan Summit 2021” held in Kazan, Mus said, “We attended various sessions there, we had the opportunity to visit the fair there. Then we had good meetings.”

Stating that they came to Moscow for the KEK Meeting after their contact in Tatarstan, Mus said, “The meetings here went very well. We also signed the Memorandum of Understanding. There were issues waiting for solution, we solved some of them. There are other issues to be resolved. But the steps we take here are steps that will contribute to the development of our trade.”

Underlining that they want to reach the target of $100 billion in mutual trade, set by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Mus said, “We want to establish a balanced trade. We want to develop trade with Russia on a win-win basis.”

Noting that they expect mutual trade to reach $30 billion this year, Mus said, “This shows that $100 billion is an achievable target in bilateral trade. We have serious cooperation in the field of energy. We want to shift and expand our cooperation there to different fields of energy.”

“WE AGREE WITH THE TARGETS OF $100 BILLION WITH RUSSIA”

Minister Mus stated that they want to advance in production-related fields and said, “We also agree with the Russian side to increase our trade to $100 billion in a mutually balanced manner. They also want to achieve this goal. We want this trade to grow in a balanced way.”

Pointing out that Russia has made a serious effort in recent years, especially in terms of production, Mus said, “Russia is a country rich in natural energy resources, but it also wants to diversify its industry. As Turkey, we may actually be there for them. Therefore, I think that we have the ability to increase our trade volume and production base here. We held productive meetings in Moscow, and I think we will see the reflections of this in the economy in the coming days, weeks and years.”

Making evaluations about the “12th Kazan Summit 2021”, which he visited in Kazan and where Anadolu Agency (AA) is the “Global Communication Partner”, Mus said:

“I think the forum has achieved its purpose. It will develop over the years. From what I observed there, I think that the forum actually met its purpose with the intention set out. The purpose was achieved there. There were representatives from different countries, they had meetings with each other, different meetings were held. We also held other meetings there.

Therefore, not only the purpose of the summit, but also other issues were discussed there. There was an atmosphere of dialogue, and in this sense, I think that the summit was beneficial and achieved its purpose. These summits add a lot to the city of Kazan. We also came together with our Turkish investors there. We have large industrialists who have investments in Kazan and have investments in the autonomous industrial zone there. We have companies that have business all over Russia, and we talked to them. It has been tremendously beneficial for us.”
