Turkiye: $1 billion export from the electrical-electronics sector in May

The electrical-electronics sector realized exports of $1 billion 68 million in May. Among the countries where the exports of the sector increased, Russia, Poland, Bulgaria and Azerbaijan came to the fore.

According to the information compiled from the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), the exports of the electrical-electronics sector, which was $1 billion 98 million in May last year, reached $1 billion 68 million in the same period of 2022.

Looking at the export distribution of the sector on the basis of countries, the highest export was made to the United Kingdom with $112.5 million in May. The sector’s exports to the UK decreased by 31.8% compared to the same period last year.

The United Kingdom was followed by Germany with a 13.5% increase and $104.1 million, France with a 19.4% decrease and $58.8 million, and Spain with a 14.2% increase and $53.7 million.

It was noteworthy that the electrical-electronic exports to Russia increased by 62.3% in May compared to the same period of the previous year and reached $31.8 million. Among the countries where electrical-electronic exports increased, Poland stood out with an increase of 42.6% and $35.3 million, Bulgaria with an increase of 59.2% and $27.9 million, and Azerbaijan with an increase of 70.5% and $17.8 million.

93.5% increase in Kayseri’s electrical-electronic exports

The region to which the electrical-electronics sector exports the most, based on country groups, was the European Union (EU) countries. The sector, which made exports of $485.2 million to EU countries in May 2021, realized an export of $496.5 million to the region with an increase of 2.3% in the same period of this year.

EU countries were followed by other European countries with exports worth $155.1 million. It was noteworthy that the electrical-electronic exports to the Commonwealth of Independent States increased by 29.9% to $102.3 million. The exports of the sector to the Middle East countries increased by 14% to $118.9 million.

Looking at the export figures of the sector on the basis of provinces, Istanbul was the province with the highest export volume in May with $519.3 million. Istanbul was followed by Manisa with $165.6 million, Denizli with $63.8 million and Kocaeli with $61 million in electrical and electronics exports.

Among the provinces that increased their electrical-electronic exports, Izmir stood out with a 50.3% increase and $55.6 million, and Kayseri with a 93.5% increase and $46.3 million.
