Turkiye: About 1.2 million passengers traveled in 1 year on the Karaman YHT line

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoglu stated that more than 1 million 194 thousand passengers travel on the Karaman-Istanbul, Karaman-Ankara YHT track in a year.

In a written statement about the Konya-Karaman YHT line, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoglu reminded that the line was opened on January 8, 2022 with the presence of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, emphasizing that fast, reliable and comfortable transportation attracted great interest from the citizens.

Noting that a total of 1 million 194 thousand passengers traveled in a year, 472 thousand 532 on the Karaman-Istanbul-Karaman route and 721 thousand 782 on the Karaman-Ankara-Karaman route, Karaismailoglu said:

“From Konya-Karaman, 448 thousand 245 passengers preferred YHT. We are operating a total of 6 flights, 2 between Istanbul and Karaman and 4 between Ankara and Karaman. We also organize additional flights to meet the increasing demand during holidays and semester holidays. In a year, we hosted an average of 1313 daily passengers between Karaman and Istanbul, and an average of 2 thousand 5 passengers between Karaman and Ankara.”

Underlining that the travel time between Konya and Karaman has decreased to 40 minutes on average, and the travel time between Ankara-Konya-Karaman has decreased to 2 hours and 40 minutes, Karaismailoglu noted that the travel time between Istanbul and Karaman is 6 hours.

“On the other hand, with the 102-kilometer Konya-Karaman high-speed train line, not only passenger transport, but also freight transport, speed and capacity have been increased.” Karaismailoglu, who made his evaluation, pointed out that the capacity of 60 double trains has been increased and that freight trains have started to operate and the total amount of freight transported from the line in 1 year is 1 million 742 thousand net tons.

Minister Karaismailoglu underlined that the works for the extension of the Konya-Karaman high-speed railway line to Ulukisla-Mersin-Adana-Osmaniye-Gaziantep continue, and said, “We have announced our Vision 2053. Within the framework of this vision, we will increase the number of provinces that meet high-speed trains to 52. We entered the railway-based investment process. Our railway investment budget, which continues with urban rail systems, has reached $27 billion. With the Turkish Century, we are preparing our country for a brand new and historical start.”
